“The fact that Jared and Cassie are missing, worries me.” Violet confides in me when we’re changing in the locker room. “I heard people saying detectives were going to come to school and ask around for clues on where they could be.”

Tania, a blonde cheerleader from our class, joins the conversation upon hearing us talk about Jared and Cassie. “Rumor has it, he got her pregnant and they decided to run away together.” She shrugs, unconcerned. “They used to be a thing so who knows.”

I glance at Violet with a frown, before turning back to Tania, who is adjusting the strap of her bag over her shoulder, getting ready to leave. “Why would they run away without telling anybody?”

“Her dad is running for mayor of the city, a teenage pregnancy would be a scandal. They would send her away, most likely.” She takes one last look in the mirror on the wall and then starts walking towards the exit. “See you later.”

“I bet if someone is happy that Cassie is gone, that’s her. No more competition,” Violet says, rolling her eyes, once Tania leaves.

I don’t know how a teenage pregnancy could ruin Cassie’s father’s chances to be a mayor. Cause a scandal, though? Probably.

If Cassie really is pregnant, it gives her a reason to want to run away. Kind of extreme, but understandable. Now Jared? I can’t imagine her convincing him to go with her when he was the star quarterback and had a promising career ahead of him.

Unless she threatened him. But still, something doesn’t feel right about this situation.

“You said Jared texted you before the party, right?” I ask Violet, remembering our encounter in the parking lot, before the party.

“Yeah and that’s what worries me… What if they think I have something to do with their disappearance? I don’t want to be involved.” I watch as her expression turns fearsome.

“I’m sure they just want leads to find out where to start searching.”

She nods, agreeing with me before leaving for her next class, but it does nothing to wipe the hint of worry present on her face.

I’m still getting dressed when I hear the last girl leave the locker room. I don’t have class for the next thirty minutes so I stayed behind to help to put back the PE class equipment.

I’m inside a stall, buttoning up my pants when I someone knocks on the door.

“It’s busy.” The knock goes off again and I sigh. “Just a second.”

I reach for my shirt and scramble to put it on. Unlocking the door, I open it and frown taking in the empty locker room.

Either someone is messing with me or they got tired of waiting.

I turn back around and step inside the stall, fishing inside my bag for the hairbrush.

When I turn my back again I can’t stop the shriek that leaves my mouth, my heart almost jumping out my chest.

Adam towers over me, his stance wide and his arms holding on to the sides of the stall, blocking my only way out.
